Your toilet should be replaced every 5 to 10 years, depending on its condition. If it is starting to show signs of wear and tear, such as cracks or leaks, it may need to be replaced sooner. On the other hand, if it is still in good condition, you may be able to wait longer.
Repiping & Pipe Bursting in Central and North Jersey
A plumbing system can become a constant source of frustration when one repair leads to another somewhere else in the house. Older pipes develop corrosion, recurring leaks, poor water pressure, or sections that are simply too deteriorated for another patch to make sense. Mr. Rooter Plumbing helps homeowners throughout Central and North Jersey evaluate whether repiping is the better long-term solution for aging or damaged plumbing. Keep reading to learn how different pipe replacement methods work, when they make sense, and what factors determine the best approach for your property.
Why Repeated Pipe Repairs Eventually Stop Making Sense
A single leak usually points to one specific repair. The situation looks different when leaks begin turning up behind multiple walls, around separate fittings, or in several sections of the plumbing system. Each repair can mean cutting into drywall, pulling out damp insulation, drying the area, replacing the damaged pipe, and fixing the wall afterward.
Repeated leaks can also mean the trouble goes beyond one bad fitting. Galvanized steel corrodes from the inside, while copper sometimes develops pinhole leaks. Older drain piping can crack, collect scale, or become thinner with age. Fixing one damaged area leaves the rest of the older piping in place. If several failures involve pipe from the same period, a repipe may make more financial sense than paying for repairs section by section.
A repiping specialist will look at where previous leaks occurred, whether corrosion appears in more than one place, and how much finished material has to be opened during each repair. Homeowners can then compare the cost of one planned project with the expense of repeated service calls, water damage, and restoration. Broken pipe replacement is still a practical choice when the problem is limited to one area and the surrounding plumbing remains in good condition.
What a Whole-House Repipe Involves From Start to Finish
A whole-house repipe doesn’t mean every wall in the home has to come down. The job usually begins by tracing the current supply lines. The crew finds shutoffs, maps fixture connections, and decides where the new piping can run. Access openings are made only where workers need to reach turns, vertical sections, valves, or connections.
Next, sections of the old supply network are disconnected as the new lines are installed. Those lines run to sinks, toilets, tubs, showers, hose bibs, and other fixtures throughout the home. A licensed plumber in Morristown, NJ also inspects fittings, valves, and fixture connections for leaks before normal water service resumes.
The right piping material depends on the property, local code requirements, water conditions, and the available route for each line. Copper and PEX are both common in residential plumbing, but neither is automatically right for every house. A repiping specialist also determines whether the trouble involves supply lines, drains, or both. New water lines won’t solve a damaged sewer line or a deteriorated cast iron drain stack.
How Pipe Bursting Replaces Underground Lines With Less Excavation
Buried sewer and water lines are difficult to replace because the damaged pipe may cross a lawn, driveway, walkway, patio, or established landscaping. Traditional replacement requires an open trench along much of the route. Pipe bursting uses the existing path and usually requires access pits near the beginning and end of the line instead.
The method won’t work for every property. A badly collapsed line, large offsets, nearby utility lines, limited access, or certain pipe conditions can make another service necessary. A local plumber may use a camera inspection, measurements, and utility records to decide whether pipe bursting makes sense for the route.
For broken pipe replacement beneath finished outdoor spaces, reducing excavation can also reduce the amount of landscaping or hardscape that needs to be rebuilt.
What Our Customers Have to Say
The service provided was great, nothing to say about the work of the plumber. 5 stars to him. But the company charges felt way too much for the work. We would have liked to have the same plumber take care of other things in the house, but every time he check how much extra the company will charge for the job, the price just got too much. The plumber did an amazing job he selected a beautiful faucet to replace our old one. He did his best. But the company prices have no room for negotiation.
A million stars!!!! Steve and Lucas were absolutely amazing. My parents pipes burst and within 4 hours of calling they came and fixed everything!!! Very nice guys and dealt with my panicking. I will always use them if needed in the future and you all should too!!! Thank god for people like this!!! Thank you so much guys!!!
We got very quick service, I think the plumber actually arrived in less than an hour! After reviewing what was happening, he gave us our options and performed the option we selected. This happened in the late afternoon or early evening. It was already dark and there was a lot of snow on the ground.
I needed immediate, same day service in the early evening at my home. I went to the internet and looked up plumbing services that offered "24-hour, 7-day a week" availability. The first 3 places I called said that they could not get to me until the following day. Then I called Mr. Rooter. They were courteous and promptly got a technician to my house within an hour and a half. The technician, Lucas Kaufmann, was exceptional. The job was not easy, but he figured the problem out and got me all fixed up within an hour's time. Moving forward, I…
Despite what was quite obviously a busy day (day after Thanksgiving at 10pm) TJ came out and did not leave until the job was done! There were several setbacks, which at the late hour might have prompted him to leave- but he chose to stay and continue until the job was complete! I only have one bathroom so I was really hoping he could make it work, and he really did a wonderful job! So thankful for all of his help! I highly recommend TJ!
This is my second time using Mr. Rooter and I have to say they are an excellent company of experienced professionals! The service techs were courteous, experienced and actually spent time trying to figure out the issue before proposing the solution. They were also patient and answered all my questions without rushing the work. I will be using them again.
TJ was amazing! 10/10 recommend this company. We were in an emergency state of panic with a burst pipe in the middle of a bad snowstorm. TJ came with knowledge, professionalism, kindness, and found the root of the problem within five minutes of being here. We will be using him again in the spring to fix an outdoor issue he found!
The technicians were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The price was too high I believe, but the technicians had no control over that. The technicians took their time and did a great job. I would use them again and also recommend them.
Excellent service! Charles and Nicholas of Mr. Rooter arrived to my scheduled service a few minutes early, wore sanitary shoe coverings, and were extremely professional. They found the source of my leak quickly and fixed the issue. While they here, I requested an additional hydraulic heating inspection which they accommodated. They were very knowledgeable and provided helpful tips. I highly recommend this team and I will definitely call them for all future plumbing needs!!
TJ came to my aid as the water pipe froze in my house. Although nothing could be done he gave me hints of what could be done my me which was very helpful. I found TJ very professional and caring about my situation. The best part of the very long night was the dogs adored him one wanted to accompany him to his next job. Thank you for employing such an amazing man. Plus today there is water running in the house. Thank you TJ and thank you Mr. Rooney plumbing for employing a man with helpful hints!!!!!
When Pipe Lining Works Better Than Full Pipe Replacement
Pipe lining rehabilitates the interior of an existing line rather than removing it. Depending on the system used, a liner is installed inside the old pipe and forms a new interior surface. The existing pipe remains in place, so its condition matters. A line that has collapsed, separated badly, or lost too much structural integrity won’t provide a suitable host for the liner.
For some projects, pipe descaling is used before pipe lining so the inside of the older line is clean enough for the next step. It may also open up space inside a pipe that has become narrowed by heavy scale. What it cannot do is replace missing metal or repair a pipe wall that has already become severely deteriorated.
A repiping specialist can compare the remaining structure of the existing line with the extent of the damage. If the pipe is still sound enough to serve as a host, pipe lining can reduce demolition. If sections are crushed or badly displaced, broken pipe replacement or another replacement method may be the better fit.
Why Older Cast Iron Pipes Create Different Replacement Challenges
Cast iron drain, waste, and vent piping comes with challenges that are different from those found in water-supply lines. The pipe is heavy, and long runs may pass through walls, ceilings, floors, or concrete slabs. Horizontal sections may also become thin along the bottom after years of use, and cracks sometimes form around hubs or joints.
A cast iron repipe has to be supported carefully before crews remove damaged sections. Workers also need to plan how newer piping will connect with any older material that stays in place. Branch lines, vents, cleanouts, slope, and available access all influence the layout. A licensed plumber in Oakhurst must make sure proper drainage is maintained throughout the replacement work.
Cleaning may still be useful when a cast iron line has enough solid material left. Pipe descaling can remove thick buildup and give the plumber a better look at the metal underneath. Other lines are already too deteriorated for cleaning to provide a lasting solution. When camera footage or direct inspection shows widespread damage, a cast iron repipe may make more sense than another localized repair or cleaning service.
